Commuter Rail Preparing for Winter Weather

Crews working to keep passenger areas clear of snow and ice

BOSTON – February 8, 2021 – Keolis Commuter Services and the MBTA are advising the public to take extra precautions if they need to travel tomorrow, Tuesday, February 9. Commuter Rail will continue to operate on a Winter Schedule that was approved by the MBTA’s Fiscal and Management Control Board in December 2020, and this schedule is available at MBTA.com for passengers to plan their trips.

“We’re grateful to our crews who were clearing snow, treating passenger areas and maintaining key Commuter Rail infrastructure during Sunday’s storm,” said David Scorey, Keolis CEO and General Manager. “With more snowfall in the forecast for Tuesday, our dedicated teams will again be across the network to ensure our passengers have a safe and reliable transit option.”

MBTA and Keolis personnel will be deployed across Commuter Rail to clear snow and apply sand and salt to passenger areas.

Recent forecasts from the National Weather Service anticipate much of the Commuter Rail network will receive between 2 and 4 inches of snow with higher amounts in isolated areas.

Passengers who will be traveling Monday morning can stay connected for service updates at http://www.mbta.com with winter-related travel information also available at mbta.com/winter. Passengers can also stay connected with Commuter Rail by calling customer service at 617-222-3200 or following @MBTA_CR on Twitter.
