Commuter Rail asks passengers why they “Go Green With Purple”
BOSTON – April 17, 2023 –The MBTA and Keolis Commuter Services (Keolis), the MBTA’s operating partner for Commuter Rail, launched the “Why Go Green with Purple Sweepstakes?” to highlight how small actions can have a dramatic impact on reducing your carbon footprint. The sweepstakes is part of the larger “Go Green with Purple” campaign, which educates the public about the environmental benefits of taking the Commuter Rail versus driving alone. More information about the campaign can be found at MBTA.com/GoGreen or by following #GoGreenWithPurple on social media.
“Public transportation is one of the most effective ways to reduce our carbon footprint, improving air quality for a more sustainable and healthy living environment for generations to come,” said MBTA General Manager Phillip Eng. “We are pleased to partner with our Commuter Rail operator promoting transit. So, whether you are traveling for work, pleasure or just visiting, get out of your car, sit back and leave the driving to us.”
“Traffic is back to pre-pandemic levels and taking the Commuter Rail is a reliable and green alternative to driving alone,” said Abdellah Chajai, CEO of Keolis Commuter Services. “Better than 9 out of 10 Commuter Rail trains arrive on-time, so beat the traffic and reduce your carbon footprint by riding the train. If you drive alone to work, switching to the Commuter Rail for just two of those round trips a week will save nearly 3,000 lbs in CO2 emissions. Please protect our future by contributing to the fight against climate change.”
