Keolis, MBTA Running Extra Commuter Rail Trains for New Year’s

Trains will be free to all passengers after 8 p.m.

BOSTON – December 28, 2017 – Keolis Commuter Services (Keolis), the MBTA’s operating partner for the commuter rail, will run extra trains after midnight on January 1 to accommodate passengers enjoying New Year’s Eve festivities.

The following departure times will be the final trains of the evening until regular service resumes:

Departing North Station:

  • Fitchburg – 1:15 a.m.
  • Haverhill – 1:15 a.m.
  • Lowell – 1:15 a.m.
  • Newburyport – 1:15 a.m.
  • Rockport – 1:15 a.m.

Departing South Station:

  • Franklin – 1:05 a.m.
  • Greenbush – 1:20 a.m.
  • Kingston – 1:15 a.m.
  • Middleborough – 1:10 a.m.
  • Providence – 1:10 a.m.
  • Worcester – 1:00 a.m.

Additionally, a shuttle service will run from Back Bay at 12:50 a.m. to South Station so passengers can connect to Greenbush, Kingston or Middleborough trains. No fares will be collected after 8 p.m. on the evening of December 31.

“The commuter rail is a great option for people who want to celebrate the New Year without having to think about driving or parking,” said Tory Mazzola, Director of Public Affairs for Keolis. “Our goal is to help people get to and from New Year festivities in a safe and convenient way. With service free after 8 p.m., we hope to reduce the number of drivers on the road and make commuter rail an even more attractive option for people celebrating around the greater Boston area.”

The commuter rail will operate on a Sunday schedule on New Year’s Day. Customers should take note that posted times are a trains’ departure times.
